It’s a new year.
I find myself grateful for so many new friends from this past year, but I’m also particularly mindful of a long-time friend of mine who had an exciting 2013.
This friend is one of my dearest friends. When my husband and I got married, we wanted a small ceremony. We invited our close families, and we each invited three friends to be our groomsmen-bridesmaids-officiants. (Aside: The laws in Montana are… well… loose about officiating a marriage, and we took advantage of that and asked these few friends, the people we trust most, to collectively officiate our wedding. It was perfect.) Along with her officiating duties, she played guitar and sang while I walked toward my sweet (now) husband. She was perfect.
During 2013, this friend found herself in love, in surgery, in a new job, in a new city and state, and in surgery again. She’s had what I would consider an awesome year – so full of the whole range of emotions that we can feel as humans. And she has done it with style and grace and compassion for others. Tomorrow, I’m sending an overdue care package to her that has a bowl of my wood-turning father’s that she picked out during her visit last spring but couldn’t carry on the plane, a picture of us from my wedding she requested years ago, and this newly finished Penny Patch quilt.
I hope she likes it and knows how much she is loved!
