I’m thrilled to share that I’ve put my first paper piecing pattern, Sails, on Craftsy and Etsy.

Sail Boat prep

I created this paper piecing template as part of the Nautical round of the Sewvivor sew-along. My father-in-law sailed a boat very similar to this one as a kid, and I gifted him this version to capture that memory of growing up in the Norwegian Sea Scout program.  I really like how the Nightsky fabric from Rashida Coleman Hale adds a constellation feel to the background of the boat in this version.

Sail Boat 2

Erica at ThreeLittlePumpkins on Instagram created this gorgeous version. I love how she captured a beautiful, calm day at sea while showcasing some movement in the sails with the Carolyn Friedlander Ledger fabric.

Erica Mallett from Three Little Pumpkins created this sailboat with the Antstosugar sails paper piecing pattern

Heather at Quilts Actually used bright colors in her sailboat. I love it! I’m so excited that she’s using this as the center of her US/Canada Round Robin quilt adventure.

To celebrate, I want to give away two copies of the pattern.  If you’d like to win one, just leave a comment telling me either how you’d use it or why you’re excited about sewing a sailboat! I’ll leave comments open until Sunday at midnight EST, and I’ll announce two winners on Monday.

Have a GREAT weekend!  Cheers!

Linking up this finish with Crazymomquilts.

UPDATE: I’d planned on announcing winners in a separate post, but I’ve been preoccupied.  My nurse here at the hospital randomly picked two numbers for me: 1 and 4. So, yes, I had my baby (who is healthy and adorable!), and I’ll email PDFs of the pattern to commenters 1 and 4 when I get home from the hospital. Thanks!

  1. Michele

I can’t wait to make this pattern! I am going to make it for my Dad, who is a boat captain in Wilmington, for Christmas. I plan on framing it similar to how you did yours.  Thank you for the opportunity!

  2. Sarah Schraw

Congratulations on your first pattern! It is such a great one, and I particularly love how different it looks in the different fabrics – totally different moods.

  3. ina

I would love to make this pattern!  i’m in a paper piecing cycle right now.  it just makes me happy!  i love your version with the dark night sky.  ;p

  4. Ella

I’m trying to find unique blocks to include in a sampler for my newly painted bedroom.  Something that incorporates my hubs and me together.  He loves your boat (as do I).

  5. Jeanie

I’d love to make this just because it is so beautiful!   I loved it when you first posted it last month.  I’d probably make it into a pillow.  Thanks for the chance to win.

  6. Tamie

I’d love to try this sailboat. I live at the coast and so the pattern feels right at home with me. Thanks for the opportunity. Love the different versions too.

  7. Sarah

I would like to make one of these for a lovely couple in Maine who has so generously shared their cabin and lake with us every summer. I’d like to use it to make pillows or a wall hanging for them as a thank you.

  8. Donna

This is a great pattern! I would love to make a couple toss pillows or a wall hanging for my home – it’s going “nautical”.

  9. Erica

Thanks so much, Daisy!  I loved sewing this pattern!  It think it just might be the most favorite paper piecing block that I have sewn!!  It is such a beautiful design!

  10. Super Mom - No Cape!

Congratulations on having your first pattern up for sale! How exciting! If I were making this, I’d make it for my husband who grew up in Nova Scotia and was a member of the Sea Cadets until he joined the Canadian Army at 18. On the first night we met, he enchanted me with stories of how one day he’d love to sail around the world. After almost 33 years together, I’m still enchanted.

  11. Dee

With 1 husband, 2 sons, 5 grandsons, I can foresee numerous gifts with this pattern!  They love anything with motors, sails, or wings.   In sand-locked desert we can only dream of water and sailboats.  Congratulations on your lovely pattern.

  12. Kat

I’m thrilled to see this pattern because I love to sail! I spent 2 summers sailing on a tall ship and it instilled me with a permanent love of all things boat.

  13. Tara D.

I’ve been looking for something beautiful but not too girly as a mini quilt for my bedroom, this would be perfect!

  14. Steph Blair

It’s a lovely pattern. I’m not a sailor myself, but a good friend is. In the last 3 months she’s lost a grandparent, been burgled, had an old neck injury flare up and sent the last of her kids off to school. To say she’s a bit stressed would be an understatement. I’d love to make her something and this could be perfect 😀

  15. Nesta

Congratulations! It’s beautiful and that is a good reason for wanting a copy of the pattern! I think it would look wonderful framed and hanging in my parents sitting room. My Mum was born and grew up as a child near the sea. She often tells us about when she was a sea scout! Her birthday is coming up soon and she would love this!

  16. Pat

I love this pattern.  I would use it to makes pillows for our sailboat, as well as ones for a fellow sailor.  Thanks for the chance to win!

  17. Lana

    Oh my..it is lovely!!!
Will you share with all of us who have been watching and waiting what it is? Boy or Girl?

Can’t wait to see her/ him?

    Rest well…
